The Namgyal Tsemo Gompa is considered to be the place where the guardian deities of Buddhism are located. This place can seen from a distance also as the building is done up in a peculiar brick red color. The Namgyal TsemoGompa, is indeed a very peaceful and a beautiful, which was constructed in the 15th century and is situated further beyond the Tsemo hill past Leh Palace. The monastery was built by King Tashi Namgyal after the Nubra Valley was invaded by Mirza Heder in 1531. The monastery was dedicated to all the deities who guarded and destroyed all the evil spirits and also prevented any further attack on the Namgyal dynasty. Today it is believed that the guardian deities reside in the monastery's Gongkhang.
As you climb up the sheer steep path which has gradually leads into the rocky mountain, one can see the monastery of Namgyal Tsemo Gompa. The monastery welcomes one and all in its calm and spiritual fold.
One can see a beautiful statue of Maitreya Buddha in gold also referred to as Future Buddha the one who follows the historical Buddha Sukyamani. The monastery welcomes all the people who come in quest of the Buddhist experience.
