Nandyal is a great tourist destination in the state of Andhra Pradesh. The town is well connected with other major cities of the state and it is easy to reach there by road or train. The biggest tourist attractions in Nandyal are the Nine Nandis which are basically temples of Lord Shiva. Among the nine Nandis, Mahanandi is the most famous Nandi temple. At Mahanandi temple a continuous stream of water whose source is unknown flows into an artificial pond. It is believed that the water is so pure that one can find such pure water in only Himalayas other that here. The eight other Nandis are, ’Vishnu Nandi’ ,“Surya Nandi”, ’Soma Nandi’ ,Prathama Nandi’,, ’Shiva Nandi’, ’VInayak Nandi’, Garuda Nandi’, and ’Naga Nandi’. A tourist who visits Nandyal should visit all the Nandis. One can hire an auto for the tour and it will take about half day to complete the tour.
Other places of tourist interest in Nandyal are the temple of Ahobilam and the Belum caves. The Ahobilam temple is a located in a scenic forest and the ambience of the place is very soothing. The temple is dedicated to Lord Narsimha and is very famous in the region. Belum caves are the second largest caves in Indian subcontinent. These caves have a rich history. Jain and Buddhist monks used to meditate in these caves centuries ago. Tourists from around the world visit these caves.
