The Nehru Zoological Park is considered to be the third most visited tourist destination in the city of Hyderabad. As the name suggests, this park was essentially named after the first Indian Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. The park has been managed and run by the Hyderabad forest department for more than 4 decades. One can see and enjoy more than 100 species of birds, reptiles and mammals.
The park is spread in an area of over 380 acres. There is an amazing collection of more than 100 species of reptiles, birds, and mammals who call this park as their home. One can see macaques, great horned owls fruit bats, Asiatic lions, slender loris, civets, Indian rhino, and pythons etc.
The landscaped has been purposely kept as very rugged to give a natural feel to all the animals kept here. All the nocturnal animals have been kept separately and the zoo even reverses the day/night lightings, which are all maintained artificially, for the visitors to be able to see the active nocturnal animals in the broad daylight. A tank by the name of Mir Alam tank is present here, which attracts a huge number of migratory birds.
