Hello,
This 1 day walk on New Zealand`s north island Tongariro National Park is described in several guidebooks as the single best walk in New Zealand and accessible to most fitness levels. My husband and I are eager to try it but there are also warnings about sudden changes of weather, steep climbing etc. We`re in our late fifties/early sixties, reasonably fit, but not willing to carry over a lot of equipment for the walk or get into a dangerous situation. We would be in the national park in early March. Has anyone done this walk and in what month? What age/fitness level were you? Is the Park worth visiting if we do NOT attempt the walk? Any opinions/experiences would be welcome.
