Nirmal has a rich history. Its name is derived from its famous ruler of 17th century, Nimma Naidu. Nirmal is famous for its toy making industry. The toys here are mostly made out of teak. The Godavari Pushkara ghat is on the bank of River Godavari. People come here to perform Shraddha Karma. The Basara Saraswati temple of Nirmal is the only temple of goddess Saraswati other that the one in Kashmir. It is believed that before writing the epic Ramayan, the sage Valmiki installed Goddess Saraswati temple here to seek her blessings.
