Built during the reign of the Great Mughals, Nishat Bagh is by far the most beautifully landscaped and elegant garden of Srinagar. An architectural marvel, this appealing garden was landscaped and built under the instructions of Asif Khan, the brother of Nur Jahan (Queen of Jehangir) in 1633.
The lovely locales of Nishat Bagh are located on the fringes of the equally beautiful Dal Lake and astound visitors by their backdrop of the Zabarwan Mountains. The words “Nishat Bagh” literally translates to “The Garden of Joy. Just like its counterpart Shalimar Bagh, this majestic garden is also fringed by alluring streams and terraces. The landscapes of Nishat Bagh are dotted by long avenues of Cypress and Chinar trees. Twelve beautifully terraced gardens heighten the appeal of Nishat Bagh –that sprawls across 6.20 hectares (15.3 acres) and is situated at a short distance of 11 km from the heart of the city and the Tourist Reception Centre.
