Pandua or Parua, is a deserted town situated 12 kms form English Bazar and 18kms from Gaur. It was once the Muhammadan Capital of Bangal, But it was almost Certainly in existence as a Hindu Capital long before the advent of the Mohammadan History in when Shamusaddin ilyas Shah mounted the throne of Bngal in Hazrat Panua after killing 'Allauddin Ali Shah. but Gins Struck by the late being in 1342-1345 A.D, at Firuzabad, the Mohammadan Cout name for Pandua are known, so that Allauddin must also have had his capital there llyas himself kept the capital at Pandua. After Allauddin's death in 1345 A. D.
As no coins were subsebsequently struck by him at Firuzabad; and no coin of llyas Struck at Lakhnauti are known. The seat of government seems to have remained at pandua till the reign of NAsiruddin Mohmmud Shah 1442-59 A. D., who re-transferred it to Gaur, The establishmnent of Pandua in the first instance seems to have been the existence of an " Island" of old REd Alleusium clsoe to the Junction of Mahanada River and a former bed of the Gangas moved further south and the Mahanada, which still proctece the town on teh west. old Maldan at the junction of the Mahanada and the kalindri which took place of the place of the Ganges became the actual port of Pandua.
