Patan has a great significance in the pages of the history. It was the capital of Gujaratstate for around six hundred years, even before Ahmedabadwas founded. It is located at around 130 kms from Ahmedabad. The place was ruined by the army of Ala-ud-Din Khilji, and today it is a small town and not many people visit here. There is a beautiful step-well in the town that tells the story of history and is still in a very good condition. The well leads down to the various levels where the sculptures are carved on the pillars. There are also a number of Jain temples. Patan therefore is an interesting place to visit.
