This wildlife sanctuary spans a mammoth area of around 333 sq kms and contains the evergreen dense forest where you will enjoy wonderful wildlife and feel close to the nature. This is located at a distance of around 90 km southeast of Thanjavur. There are a number of migratory bird species that come here in the winters from the month of October to March. The migratory birds include teals, shovelers, curlews, terns, plovers, sandpipers, shanks, herons etc. Even during the other times of the year you will find a number of native animals in this sanctuary. This includes bush birds, black bucks, sambars, and spotted deer on the plain areas.And, the entry fee for per person is 10 Rs.
If you are interested in cycling you will have a fascinating time exploring the wild life. It will be great if you can take binoculars along with yourself that will help you to spot the wild animals. If you visit the place a guard will join you to show you the entire wild life and you will get to see a number of animals during that time. The atmosphere of the place is wonderful and makes you feel comfortable. If you want to stay here and have the jungle experience then there are two lodges which are managed by the forest departments. The rooms are available for rent and are quite cheap. Thus it is a nice place to visit. If you are more interested to see the birds then you should visit in the months from October to March.
