There are many unique Hindu temples which are located in the town of Ponda, which is located at a distance of 29kms southeast of the town of Panaji. There are many spice plantation also that one can enjoy seeing.
The original Hindu temples were destroyed by the Portuguese and later rebuilt and one distinct feature of the Goan architecture, are the lamp towers. The best temple is the Shiva temple of Shri Manguesh, located at Priol- Ponda Taluka, which is located at a distance of 5km northwest from the town of Ponda. This is a small 18th-century hilltop temple, which has a white tower, and this is a local landmark. Located close by is a Vishnu temple which is known as the Shri Mahalsa.
The other temple located nearby is the Shri Shantadurga Temple, which is at a distance of 1km southwest of the town centre. This is dedicated to the goddess of peace, Shantadurga. The temple sports an unusual, almost pagoda-like structure with a roof which is made from long slabs of stone.
