The ruined remains of Rabdentse take you back into time and help you experience the city that was. Rabdentse, the much acclaimed ancient capital of Sikkim was vastly destructed by the Nepalese army in the year 1814. A short walk from the Pemayangtse Monastery will help you get closer to these ruins. Marked by exotic flora, rare orchids, scenic lakes and a thick dense forest—this journey proves to be both adventurous and invigorating. This ancient city was earlier divided into two parts (North and South) and was reigned over with great fervor. These ruins also form an important part of a Buddhist pilgrimage circuit that starts with its first monastery at Yuksom.
