Re Airline Prices and New York City

We have booked the Best Western south of Central Park at $200 a night but are still on the lookout for something better and cheaper (probably not going to happen). Any
unusual suggestions for sightseeing or eating will be appreciated. Also, we are considering the "New York Pass" which includes hop on hop off and many attractions. Has
anyone used it and do you recommend it? I think that I could actually travel with one carry on bag but how do we then carry all the little things that are banned eg. tiny scissors, wine opener? I do like to know what I am being charged for in my fare but I prefer to be given the complete cost while I am comparing prices rather than find out that there are many extra charges after I have decided on a particular airline.
