Romania - weekend in Transylvania

I have not visited Sibiu, but have heard good things about it. Sigisoara is definitely worth a visit, especially the medieval center of the city. If train or bus schedules permit, you might consider visiting Marosvasarhely (Targu Mures), which is not far away. There`s a reasonably priced panzio (Tempo Panzio) that`s in easy walking distance of city center. Main thing to see there is the Culture Palace, a beautifully restored Art Nouveau building (closed on Mondays) Another city not far from Sigisoara is Odorheiu Secuiesc (Szekelyudvarhely) where there is a very nice hotel, the Tarnava - Kukullo. Sorry, I can`t recommend a hotel in Sigisoara (Segesvar) itself, because we were unable to find accommodations (but we were traveling in a group of 18!) There are, however, some nice restaurants (some with outdoor courtyards) just off the main square in the old town - you could get a good meal at any of them. There`s also a pizza place just below the medieval city (I think you pass the clock tower and take the steps that lead downhill) that had an excellent variety of tasty food. Although you`ll surely have maps for your walking trip, I would also recommend a large-scale map of Transylvania (Erdely). Most of these will have Romanian and Hungarian names for every town and city, and some also have the German names - the map becomes a history lesson in itself.
