The city of Nawalgarh inJhunjhunu was founded by the famous warrior statesman Thakur Nawal Singhji in 1737 AD. The city has the pride of having largest number of Havelis in Shekhawati. However the most beautiful among them is the Roop Niwas Palace of the royal family of Rawal Madan Singhji. This beautiful palace is surrounded by fountains and gardens. It was initially built as a country house sprawling over 150 acres for breeding the family’s favourite horses. However in 1928, it soon became the permanent residence of the royal family. It was then modernised for contemporary lifestyle along with the splendid Rajasthani architecture. In 1981 Rawal Devendra Singh the successor of Rawal Madan Singhji opened this ancestral home in its original setting for the outside guests. Hence the palace changed to heritage hotel and has the pride of hosting a lot of royal dignitaries from across the world. The calm atmosphere of the palace not only offers a break from the running pace of outside world but is a living example of the royal Rajasthani hospitality. A stay of few days in this haveli gives a unique experience of the golden past in all its royalty and richness.
