The Samdruptse ridge is visible from kilometers around. There is 45 meters high Padmasambhava statue which is painted in copper and bronze and looks quite brilliant even from a large distance. Padmasambhava lived in the 8th century and was a holy man and Tantric master. He was also known as Guru Rinpoche in Tibetan and was the one who introduced Tantric Buddhism in the Himalayan regions.
This place was completed in 2004 on the foundation which was laid by Dalai Lama himself. It still looks quite amazing although it has been weathered in some parts. This site is around 7 kms fromNamchi, Sikkim and is easily approachable by taxi, following the road down to Ngadak. A new gompa is under construction at Ngadak which is also a fine place to travel and enjoy the old and neglected dzong which date back to 1717. There is also a rock garden nearby where entry is made by tickets. That is also a worth visting place.
