This wildlife sanctuary is located between Junagadhand Veraval in the forested hilly land. This is popularly known as the last refuge of the Asiatic lions. The sanctuary was founded in the year of 1965 and it was declared a national park in 1975. The sanctuary spans a vast area of 259 sq kms and the forest is spread all over. The lions are the main attraction in the sanctuary. They have been well kept and thus the number has increased considerably over the last few decades. There are hundreds of other mammals being found here.
Similarly you will also find hundreds of bird species as well. The place is rich in the diversity of species and therefore takes you close to the nature. If you are planning to visit, the best time is from December to April. Also, please note that the sanctuary is closed from mid June to mid October. Therefore, there is no point in visiting during that time. It is a place to explore the varieties of species and experience the wonders of nature. It is a non commercial place and the tranquility is at its highest levels. The national park is a must visit place for people who want to have a distinct experience in the lap of nature.
