Founded and laid out by the horticulture department linked with the Government of Tamil Nadu, Semmozhi Poonga is an oft visited botanical garden in Chennai. It was opened to the public on 24th November 2010 and boasts of being the first botanical garden of this historic city. Located opposite to the American Consulate on Anna Salai- Cathedral Road junction, Semmozhi Poonga lies in close vicinity to the erstwhile Drive-in Woodlands Hotel—Chennai’s first drive-in restaurant.
Sprawling over an area of 320 grounds (20 acres), this magnificent sightseeing location was built with a budget of INR 80 million. Nature lovers and tourists love to savor the rich hues and fragrance of over 500 species of plants grown in this park.
