The shrinking hotel room The most peculiar hotel room

Hi : Over 20 years ago, when we first became interested in small inns and B and Bs, we stayed at The Union Hotel in Normandale, Ontario, a small hamlet on the shores of Lake Erie. While we tend not to share bathrooms, it must be said that we did realize that we were going to share the bathroom with the occupants of the other two rooms.
We looked forward to the candlelit dinner as well as a candlelit breakfast in the dining room. The dining room also served as a country restaurant serving dinner to patrons who were not staying at this small inn.
What did surprise us was learning that not only was the bathroom to be shared by the overnight guests, it also doubled as the restaurant`s washroom. At least, there were two - one for women and one for men.
The room was small, although not the smallest we`ve stayed in. But we were further surprised to find there was no lock on the door, especially seeing that restaurant guests would pass by on their way to the washrooms!
It was definitely a little unnerving, while garbed in a nightgown, to try to avoid the restaurant guests in the hall. Can`t say that I thought it was very funny washing my face and brushing my teeth in the same bathroom with the restaurant guests, although for some reason, they thought it was a riot!
I was even more surprised to learn that there was absolutely no tub or shower in this bathroom, although perhaps it was just as well, seeing just how "shared" it was. But this definitely gave new meaning to the expression "dirty weekend!"
