SIMs and cells in El Salvador

John`s message about SIM cards for the US reminded me about the cells/SIMS in El Salvador. When I was there in March, I discovered that for only $5 US, TIGO (a local cell phone provider) will pop a SIM card in your phone. And the desk is located right at baggage claim at San Salvador airport, so while you wait for luggage to come off the belt, you can get your phone ES-ready. In the past, I have just bought a pay-as-you-go phone ($15-20 US) upon arrival in El Salvador. Even with heaps of in-country calls & several calls to the US, I rarely go through more than $15 in prepaid phone cards in 10 days. As in the US, prepaid cards are sold everywhere.
