Originally known as Jaisinghpur and donated by Aman Singh, the King of Panna to Mahant Charandas, Sitapur on the banks of the Payaswani River is associated with the legend of Ramayana. According to the story, Lord Rama set up residence with his wife Sita at this very place while on his exile from the kingdom of Ayodhya.
Situated near Kamadgiri, it is a place of pilgrimage for the followers. A dip in the Payaswani River followed by the circumambulation (Parikrama) of the Kamadgiri mountain is said to purify the soul. There are a large number of temples that line up the banks of the river, along with numerous Ghats adding to the beauty and charm of this holy place. A must visit for devotes and tourists alike.
