The word Sivasagar means the Ocean of Lord Shiva the Hindu God. This town is located in the upper Assam. Today this town is well known for the oil industries, Ahom palaces and monuments and for tea.
There are many temples located in this town the prominent ones are the Shivadol, which is also believed to the highest temples in the town, Devidol and Vishnudol. The most important festival held here is the Dugra Puja, which is held twice in the year.
Besides the temples there is a museum also located which is known as the Tai Ahom Museum, is located on the banks of the Sivasagar. The museum houses artifacts which were collected during the period of the from the Ahom rule and their rulers, some weapons like the vestments, swords, manuscripts, goblets, and household utensils are also stored in this museum.
Today there are many hotels that one can stay in while visiting this town.
