Srikakulam is a very famous town in Andhra Pradesh. It is famous for its tourist spots and temples. People from far away places come here in large numbers. This town has a rich history. Many ruins of muslim rule can still be seen here. Srikakulam had been a part of the famous Kalinga region of history. River Nagavali which flows through Srikakulam is a life line for the people living here as well as a beautiful tourist attraction.
A number of Buddhist stupas and a monastery with beautiful surroundings are present here on the bank of river Vamsadhra. The shrine of famous Sufi saint Kalingapatnam is also present here and it attracts a lot of devotees and tourists. The old light house present here adds to the attractiveness of Srikakulam. The temple of Sun god at Arasavilli was built by kings of Kalinga dynasty and dates back to the 7th century. It is locally known as’ Sri Suryanarayan Swami’ temple and popularly believed as god of health.
Another rich heritage site is Sri mukhalingam. It is a group of three temples with beautiful architecture. The entrances of mukhalingam temple are marvellous themselves. The other two deities are Bheemeshwara and Someshwara. The sculptural work at Someshwara temple is awe inspiring. The famous Ayappa Swamy temple is visited by large number of tourists as the deity idol is built of ‘panch dhatu’. There are a lot of worth seeing places in Srikakulam and one should not miss a chance to visit it.
