suggestions for a 10 day trip to Europe

Since its your first trip, I recommend you do the holy trinity in Italy: Rome, Florence and Venice.
You dont say what like to do: Museums, parks, churches, food, scenery, so it is difficult to get specific; however, if you have never visited, I would go there before branching out to other deserving area like Cinque Terre, Umbria, the Lakes others too numerous to mention.
Flying into Rome, it is an easy train ride to Florence and Venice. You can visit the Vatican and enjoy wonderful food and gelatos everywhere. A weeks visit to Italy and several days in Paris would be a wonderful trip. I would not try for a more ambitious schedule as you will find you will be too rushed traveling to and from to enjoy anything.
Read Don and Linda`s travelogues and read, read, read. You may find that you will decide to just do one country at a time instead of hopping about. You will get great ideas from this group if you ask more specific questions and let us know your likes/dislikes.
Planning can be as much fun as the trip itself!
