This is located on the outskirts of Shimla and lies at a high altitude of 2123 meters above sea level. It lies about 5 kms west of Shimla and lies in the middle of seven hills. It is surprising to know that in the past people such as Mahatama Gandhi have stayed here in the Georgian Mansion which was owned by Rajkumari Amrit Kaur. There are abundant deodar and pine trees all around which add to the beauty of the place and there is also the Indian Institute of Advanced Study which is situated here. This institute is located in the Viceregal Lodge which was built around the year 1884 and lies on the Observatory Hill here. This houses the Himachal Pradesh University that has a large number of Post graduate courses that it offers to students. Some of the popular courses are Commerce, Management, Humanities and science. Some students even walk from here to Shimla as the view all around is nice but for tourists there is the Shimla Railway line that passes through Summer Hill.
