Ranakpur a religious city is located at a distance of 98 km from Udaipur in Rajasthan and is famous for the Sun Temple. The sun temple devoted to Hindu Sun God was originally constructed in 13th century and then rebuilt in 15th century. The temple is decorated in a sophisticated classic Nagara style. The entire construction uses huge white lime-stones. Being dedicated to the Sun God, the temple faces east and has an altar adorned with a shikhara .The exterior of the altar has the images of the Sun God seated on a chariot being pulled by horses, engraved beautifully. It also has an octagonal mandapa with carved pillars and 6 verandas. The temple also got nominated among the 77 wonders while deciding the Seven Wonders of the World. Ranakpur also has the famous Chaumukh temple dedicated to the first Jain Thirthankara Adinatha. As the name suggests, the four faced image symbolizes the quest for the four directions and ultimately the cosmos. The temple has 29 halls with 1444 pillars no two of which are alike and they change their colour from golden to pale blue after every hour during the day. Parsvanath temple and Amba Mata temple are also worth visiting.
