Tandi is located at a point where the Chamba and Bhaga rivers meet. As per a legend it is believed that there were two lovers named, 'Chandra', she was the daughter of the Moon and 'Bhaga', the son of the Sun god. For performing their eternal marriage, they both decided to climb the 'Baralacha La' and from there they ran in opposite directions. Chandra was very active and smart, and thus she easily found her way down the pass and reached 'Tandi'. Bhaga came to this point with a lot of struggle through the narrow gorges to Tandi, and they finally met and the celestial marriage was performed. The people of Lahaul give a lot of religious significance to Tandi, same as that given to 'Haridwar' by the Hindus.
