Tarapith Temple, one of the main centers attributed to the practice of tantric rituals in West Bengal, is a renowned place of worship for the Hindus. This temple is named after Goddess Tara—one of the most powerful deities, with an immense knowledge of tantra.
Tarapith Temple is located in close vicinity to a cremation ground, where a saint called Bama Khepa spent much of his lifetime in the practice and study of this form of yoga/worship. His small abode is situated close to the precincts of the main temple and is visited by the followers and believers of “tantric vidya”. The fact that Tarapith Temple practices and propagates this hidden form of Hindu worship (tantra) in the open, makes it all the more peculiar and visit worthy.
