Tenali is a famous tourist destination in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. It was the home town of Tenali Ramakrishna, the famous poet of King Sri Krishnadevaraya of Vijaynagar dynasty. He is very famous among kids as a cartoon series was made based on him. It is well connected with other major towns and cities of the state by road and rail, so it is quite simple to reach there.
The colourful town of Tenali celebrates many festivals through out the year. The festival of Sri Rama Navami is celebrated with great joy. Every year more that 2,00,00 people gather here to witness the grand celebrations of Rama Navami when a Pandal is stretched over the entire main roads of the city. Tenali holds a special place in the India’s Independence movement and the Ranaranga Chowk is a famous memorial of that time.
A very famous ritual called Perantalamma Tirunala haapens here in the Perantalamma temple over 7 days. A chariot made of tree trunk is prepared and the goddess Perantalamma’s statue is placed in it. The chariot is taken out in the night in the streets of Tenali and returned by the morning. Many tourists come here to witness the holy ritual.
There are many other Hindu temples in Tenali like Ganganamma temple, Vinayak temple, Saibaba temple, Vinayak Vigraham temple which are very famous among devotees and tourists for the various rituals that happen in these temples.
