Located atop the Tirpai Hills with dense forest all around is the Tharpa Choeling Gompa. Built in 1937 by the yellow hats, as the Gelukpa Sect of Buddhists is known, this was the first monastery of the three that were eventually established in Kalimpong. The mighty Himalayan Range acts as a backdrop for the monastery and on a clear day can be seen in totality.
Attracting Buddhist monks, devotees and tourists alike, the monastery presents a very serene and tranquil atmosphere for those who visit here. With no pollution and a cool and pleasant climate, this is a perfect place to meditate and become one with God.
