As the famous proverb is” Health is wealth”, and “health lost, everything lost. There are a few things which you need to remember while travelling to Alchi. These things would be really helpful during your visit.
Acclimatization
Although is much lower in altitude than Leh, the distance is 70 kilometers from Leh. You cannot travel to Leh the same day. It is always advisable to get acclimatized to the climate and lower oxygen levels. You may want to couple a things from Alchi, as in Leh things may not be available in the remote area of Leh. Avoid bringing children less than 6 years of age as they may not be able to adjust to the climate.
Clothing
You must carry sufficient woolen while travelling to Alchi. During the daytime the weather is very pleasant and varies between 20°C to 30°C. You could even a few light cottons, and swimwear if you’re planning to for a swim for rafting. Do remember to carry your walking shoes as the ground is not very smooth.
Stay
A lot of people visit Alchi for sightseeing. We recommend you to make advance reservations before visiting this upcoming destination. Here you will find a lot of Dhabas during the summer season. These dhabas also provide accommodation at a much cheaper price.
Things to carry
Don’t forget to carry some important things like sunscreen, some extra batteries, torch, few energy bars, nuts and fruits, iPods, a backpack and a solar charge too, if possible.
Things to avoid
Avoid drinking when there is a slight nip in the air, incase you’re not used to the altitude. As the oxygen levels are low, you may not be able to get over with your hangover. Instead drink plenty of tea and coffee, these will help you stay warm and fresh too,
Miscellaneous
As Alchi is a remote area, plastic money is not acceptable, therefore carry plenty of cash. Keep it in different places, and not in just one place. Take permission before clicking pictures, people may not appreciate it. If you want to taste the local food, ask for authentic Ladakhi food. Plastic bags are strictly banned in Ladakh, always ensure that you use biodegradable substitutes. Always ask for double boiled water.
