Constructed under the aegis of Akbar and in honor and respect of the Sufi Saint, the Tomb of Sheikh Salim Chisti- Uttar Pradeshis one of the most exquisite examples of Mughal Architecture. The final resting place of Salim Chisti, the Sufi Saint who was revered by Akbar himself, the tomb is visited by thousands of people daily.
The main building of the tomb is a square structure with marble filigree screens all around. Resting under the semicircular dome in the centre is the mazaar of the saint. The carving and filigree work on the marble is so fine that it makes the marble look like ivory. Thronged by followers who come to seek the blessings of the saint, the tomb is the central attraction of this city. Threads tied to the marble screens by the devotees is said to be a reminder to the saint of the devotees wishes.
