Red Fort, Delhi
The Red Fort in Delhi is a very prominent tourist attraction and was built in 1638, by the Mughal rulers. The fort is located opposite to Chandni Chowk, and Jama Masjid. The Fort can be visited daily except Monday. One can enjoy the sound and light show which is held there in the evenings.
Nahargarh Fort, Jaipur, Rajasthan
The Nahargarh fort was originally built in the year 1734 by Maharaja Jai Sawai Singh II as a place of retreat and for getting help in defending the city of Jaipur. The fort is located on the Aravalli Hills. Although the fort has not witnessed any attacks and the current state of the fort is quite sad and is dilapidated. The fort is open till 11 p.m.
Golconda Fort, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh
The Golconda fort is located only 10 kms away from Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra Pradesh. The fort is quite old and goes back to the 13th century; this is when it was founded by the Kakatiya Kings of Waranga. The Gwalior Fort is known to be quite attractive as well as imposing. The history of the fort goes back to 525 AD. The fort has witnessed many battles and attacks too. The main highlight of the fort was the mandir palace which was constructed by Man Singh between 1486 and 1516. The external walls are very elaborately decorated with blue mosaic tiles and rows of yellow ducks. The fort was later used by the Mughal rulers and converted to a prison during their rule. One can see many historic monuments, Hindu and Jain temples, and palaces.
Chittorgarh Fort, Rajasthan
The Chittorgarh Fort is regarded as the greatest and the largest fort in Rajasthan. The fort is located in the southern part of Rajasthan. The fort originally belonged to the Mewar rulers, and this was their capital till the fort was seized by the Mughal Emperor in the year 1568. Agra Fort, Uttar Pradesh
The Agra fort is considered to be as one of the premium Mughal forts in India. The fort owes its history to the Rajput’s who originally made a brick fort and was later rebuilt by the Mughal emperor Akbar in red sandstone in the year 1573. One can see several buildings inside the Fort, which even include a few palaces, mosques, public and private audience halls, towers, and courtyards.
