Travel Ferry to Ireland

We have twice taken the ferry from the UK to Ireland. In both instances, we arrived in Dun Laoghaire, which is a short commuter train ride to Dublin. There are a number of sites that will provide you with itinerary and fare details. You don`t say how much time he has for the trip so it`s hard to advise on what he should see and do in Ireland. Is he planning to fly back from Ireland to North America? Obviously, with the cheap European fares available it is easy and quick for him to fly from Liverpool to Dublin but the ferry, as far as I`m concerned, is a great way to travel. Arriving in a foreign country by boat far surpasses arriving at an airport.
