Udaigiri Caves is another interesting place to visit which is accessible fromBhopal. The caves were carved in the time of Chandragupta II and date back to the end of the 4th century AD. Most of these caves are Hindu except the two which are Jain caves but are closed due to the unsafe roofs. In one of the caves, there is a lingam of Shiva with his third eye. In another cave, there is a beautiful carving of lord Vishnu. Similarly in other caves there are carvings of the gods and Chandragupta II. These caves are meticulously carved and a fine art work is done on these caves.
These caves are located 5 kms from Vidisha and are near the paths of the Betwa River which flows through the state. You can easily take the bus or auto rickshaw from Vidisha to here. Many people even prefer to cycle from Vidisha to the caves. The caves are majestic piece of work and are therefore among the worth seeing places in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
