The Uparkot Fort is the main attraction in the city of Junagadh. The fort was first built by Chandragupta Maurya around 319BC and was modified multiple times after that. Many attackers came and besieged it and at times it was abandoned too. But the fort stood there as it has always been. Uparkot fort is a wonderful place to experience the natural views of Girnar Hill which surrounds Junagadh. There is a Jamma Masjid, the mosque inside the fort which was built by the Muslim rulers. Close to the mosque there are Buddhist caves that tourists often visit. This makes it a beautiful amalgam of two religions and therefore is a special one. The building is quite airy and the carvings on the pillars are beautiful. This place can be visited at 6.30am-6.30pm, closed 2nd & 4th Sat of month. The entry fee is Rs. 2/-.
