Vaishali, Bihar was one of the first cities of the world. It was also the home to the world’s oldest republic in the 6th century. Wait, there is even more historical significance to this place. Lord Mahavira the founder of Jain religion was born and raised in this city only.
Also, Mahatma Buddha preached his last sermon in the same city. Therefore you will find a brilliant Ashoka Pillar here on top of which a noble lion is constructed. The pillar is 2300 years old and is itself an important part of the history. There is also a Stupa of Buddha around 3 kms away where Buddha’s ashes were recovered. The place is beautiful and contains a museum too which remains open on all days except Fridays.
