Vancouver to Whistler via rail and float train

I was talking to my family about this last weekend and the concensus was that it would be a spectacular trip.
My son-in-law pointed out that it seems expensive to those of us who live around here and often go to Whistler but, for those visiting the area, it would be a once in a life time experience.
Both my daughters were in Whistler a couple of weeks ago and said the road was no problem and almost all closures are now during the night or very short 5 to 10 minute delays during the day. They did, however, point out that at some points the train goes right along the water`s edge which is not the case when you`re driving.
After talking to them, you can see I`ve changed my mind a bit as to whether the train/float plane is too expensive. It just might be worth the splurge!!
