Located in the lush and forested Western Ghats, border of Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu. The Velliangiri Hills come under the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve and is a protected area. A temple dedicated to Swayambu, a form taken by Lord Shiva draws throngs of followers and visitors alike. It is not unusual to see sages, seers and common people using the spot for meditation. According to legends, upon the wish of his consort Uma Devi, Lord Shiva performed the cosmic dance at this very place. Maha Shivratri is the most important religious festival to be celebrated here.
