The Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology is also known as NIT Nagpur. This was earlier known as the Regional College of Engineering, Nagpur and Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering (VRCE). As the name suggests this is an engineering college and ranks amongst the 30 best engineering colleges available in India. This institute was set up in the year 1960 and was later merged with the State College of Engineering which was also set up in 1956. This is considered to be a part of the National Institutes of Technology and in the year 2007, this was given national importance. In the board member one can representative from various government organizations like Government of Maharashtra, AICTE, UGC, Government of India, and the institute boasts of having Indian scientists and technologists as their faculty. The institute is situated towards the western part of the city near Lake Ambazari. There are three main entrances of the campus. The campus is spread in an area of 220 acres. There are 2 hostels for women and 12 for men, within the campus. There is an on-campus housing faculty also available. Other faculties like auditoriums, sports, a computer center, State Bank of India branch, are also available for the students.
